Skills Required: Beginner. This isn’t a hard project, though it does help to have experience with Mod Podge. However, you’ll simply be applying glitter to a mug using decoupage medium.

So once you follow the instructions and let it cure, you can wash it in the top rack of the dishwasher and the glitter won’t wash off.

DIY Glitter Mug Gift
You will need:
- Mug
- Rubbing alcohol
- Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge
- Fine grain glitter
- Paintbrush
The first thing you have to do before you can start blinging up your mug is clean the area with rubbing alcohol. This is recommended on the packaging of the Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge.
Ok, so there are two ways you can do this. You can mix your glitter into the Mod Podge which I did in this photo.
I felt like this was just going to take way too many coats and was going to be very slow as you would have to wait for each coat to dry before you could add more . . . don’t bother!
Instead, coat the handle in your dishwasher safe Mod Podge and generously sprinkle your glitter over the top.
I’m recommending fine glitter for two reasons. One, I think it looks better than the chunky stuff. Two, it will feel better when you’re holding the handle of your mug, enjoying morning coffee. I’m sure of it!
If you have any sections that look a little bare or if you missed bits just go over the blank sections with more Mod Podge and of course, more glitter.
Once your Mod Podge is dry, shake the excess glitter from the handle and wipe off any loose glitter from the body of the mug.
Give the handle a coat of Mod Podge over the top of the glitter. The instructions on the side of the container recommend 2-3 coats.
TA-DA! Pretty cute, huh?
I completely followed the instructions and let the piece cure for 28 days. I haven’t tested my glitter mug in the dishwasher yet, but I have hand washed it.
I’m thoroughly convinced that it has dried long enough for me to put it in the top rack of the dishwasher. I just haven’t had the chance! I’ll let you know how it goes.

- Ceramic mug
- Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge
- Glitter - fine
Tools

- Cotton balls
Instructions
- Clean the mug with rubbing alcohol. Let dry.
- Coat the handle with the Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge and generously sprinkle glitter over the top. Repeat until the handle is completely covered. Let dry.
- Shake the excess glitter from the handle and wipe off any loose glitter from the body of the mug.
- Give the handle an additional two to three coats of Mod Podge over the top of the glitter.
- Let cure 28 days before washing in the top rack of the dishwasher.
